As listed above I attended 4 of the 5 town halls this session and heard residents concerns, I ws unable to attend the 5th town hall as I was chairing a meeting of the Conservation Authority. Thanks to all who attended and contributed their concerns to staff and council.

May 8th Local Food Working Group

I virtually attended this meeting and the following items were discussed in the committee
  • Local Food Initiatives: Updates on current projects aimed at promoting local agriculture and food systems.
  • Community Engagement: Strategies for increasing community participation in local food programs.
  • Partnership Opportunities: Discussion on potential collaborations with local businesses and organizations.
  • Funding and Resources: Review of available grants and resources to support local food initiatives.
  • The group emphasized the importance of increasing awareness about the benefits of local food.
  • Several members shared success stories from recent local food events and markets.
  • Ideas for new workshops and educational programs were proposed to engage the community.
  • Develop a marketing plan to promote local food events.

May 8th CRCA Monthly Road Map Meeting

In my role as chair I meet once a month with the general manager to discuss items of information that may be upcoming in authority meetings and events. I also meet with staff to review monthly financials as well as receive updates on ministry policy.

May 10th Family Fishing Day

The Family Fishing Day in Loyalist Township was an engaging community event designed to promote fishing as a family-friendly activity. This event included various activities and programs aimed at encouraging families to spend time outdoors and enjoy the local waterways. I attended and as i the past managed to go home with no catches registered.

May 13th Council and Committee of the Whole Meeting

Council made the following decisions:

• Council met in closed to consider nominations to the 2025 Civic Awards.
• Enacted a by-law to redivide the existing Township Wards from three to five. Through the same by-law, Council confirmed that Council will be comprised of seven members, including the mayor (elected at-large), deputy mayor (elected at-large), and five councillors elected by ward (one from each of the five wards). The changes will be effective in planning the 2026 Municipal Election. There is a legislated 45-day appeal period.
• Declared 5555 Front Road, Amherst Island, 231 Amherst Drive, Amherstview, Part 3 of 29R7212 on Church Street, Bath and 102 Main Street, Odessa a surplus; and directed staff to offer County of Lennox and Addington parcels that could be used for the purpose of affordable housing projects including 231 Amherst Drive, 363 Amherst Drive (north portion), and the property on Church Street (Part 3 of 29R-7212).
• Passed a by-law establish and assume a one foot reserve described as Block 12 on Plan 29M72.
• Directed the Mayor and Chief Administrative Officer to enter into the Cost Sharing Agreement for the reconstruction of Pruyn Cres and Sir John Johnson Dr.
• Proclaimed June 1st to 30th as Stroke and Aphasia Awareness Month.

Committee of the Whole

The Committee of the Whole considered design options for the reconstruction of Odessa Main Street and a petition requesting that no multi-use pathway be constructed on the north or south side of Odessa Main Street. The Committee directed staff to reinstate the existing cross-section and explore alternatives to connectivity routes as outlined in the report.

May 14th TuNesday in the Park

The Nostalgic Sound Big Band played this past month blending small combos with big Jazz and Swing bands. Featuring saxophones, trumpets, trombone, rhythm section, and a female vocalist, they've expanded to include guitar and a third trumpet. Their repertoire spans Swing, Jazz, Funk, Rock, Latin, and Soul, ensuring danceable tunes for all.
The next event will take place at Loyalist Park from 6:30pm to 8:00pm with music by the HYDEAWAYS. The HYDEAWAYS are a talented and energetic trio based in Kingston, Ontario, specializing in acoustic rock, singer-songwriter, folk, country, and original music.

  • Check the weather and dress accordingly

    May 21st Lennox & Addington County Council

    I attended the monthly meeting of the County which was held in Loyalist this past month on Amherst Island
    Two presentations were given which are worth looking at on the County website
  • The Chief of Emergency Services and the Deputy Chief, Community Programs and Professional Development, gave an overview of Community Paramedicine Activities taking place on Amherst Island and throughout the county
  • The Director of Community and Development Services gave a presentation about ongoing Tourism efforts being under taken by the County including the media campaign Naturally L & A
  • other items on the agenda included
  • Review of the current budget and financial position of the county.
  • Discussion on funding allocations for upcoming projects.
  • Updates on ongoing infrastructure projects, including road repairs and upgrades.
  • Approval of new infrastructure initiatives aimed at improving community services

May 27th Council and Committee of the Whole Meeting

Council made the following decisions:
  • Approved the unused funds from 2024 Community Grant Program to be rolled into 2025. Henceforth, unused funds from each year would be rolled over into the following year.
  • Proclaimed June 2025 Recreation and Parks Month throughout the Township
  • Appointed Kevin Hawley, P.Eng, from Greer Galloway Group as the Township's Drainage Superintendent
